  4. Instructions to install PostScript Font Libraries
  5. in Your System:
  6. The following files form this group:
  7.         
  8.         1) ps_0.fli
  9.         2) ps_1.fli
  10.         3) ps_2.fli
  11.         4) ps_3.fli
  12.         5) ps_4.fli
  13.         6) ps_5.fli
  14.         7) ps_h.fli
  15.         8) fonttst1.tex , fonttst2.tex
  16.         10) readme ( this file).

  18. ------------------------------------------------------

  20. These library files have been generated from the .pk
  21. files available in the file 
  22. \pub\archive\fonts\postscript\pk-files\psfonts.zip
  23.  
  24. These files were converted from UNIX naming convention
  25. i.e. fontname.(res)pk to DOS naming convention 
  26. i.e. fontname.pk.
  27.  
  28. This enables a user to use 6 files instead of the numerous
  29. .pk files.
  30. ------------------------------------------------------

  32. 1) The following 6 files have been created, using the
  33.    betatest version of emtex FONTLIB program. 
  34.    ( If you have any problems with the older version 
  35.    please contact us at the email address mentioned below)

  37.    ps_0.fli,ps_1.fli,ps_2.fli,ps_3.fli,ps_4.fli,ps_5.fli,ps_h.fli.

  39. 2) Move these files into the \texfonts directory where you
  40.    have stored your lj_*.fli files (or other printer type
  41.    library files).
  42.  
  43. 3) Modify the .cnf (or other appropriate .cnf file that 
  44.    you are using) in the \emtex directory. The /pl line is
  45.    to be modified as shown in the sample lj.cnf here. (You
  46.    can copy this file into the \emtex directory if you are
  47.    using laserjet fonts). This is modified to use both the 
  48.    laserjet and postscript fonts.( See first arrow line
  49.    in (8) below ). We have worked with p6l.cnf,p6m.cnf,p6h.cnf
  50.    as of now.

  52. 4) Also modify newfonts.sub in the emtex directory with
  53.    the one given here and shown below in (10). Add the line 
  54.    /ps=c:\emtex\newfonts.sub
  55.    in your .cnf file. ( This has already been done in the 
  56.    lj.cnf file shown here). See second arrow line in (8) below.

  59. 5) YOU ARE GOOD TO GO.

  61. 6) EXAMPLES :
  62.    --------
  63.  
  64.    i) FONTTST1.TEX - This gives the available postscript
  65.    fonts that can be used. 
  66.    ii) FONTTST2.TEX- This gives postscript fonts at different 
  67.    sizes. The sizes shown here are the ones that can exactly
  68.    be simulated. 
  69.    Look into them for details. LaTeX them for checking your 
  70.    installation.

  72. 7) USAGE :
  73.    -----
  74.    a) Available Fonts:
  75.         ---------------

  77.    The available fonts are shown in the file fonttst1.tex.
  78.    The bracketed term shows the short form of these fonts to be used.

  80.    b) Point sizes available:
  81.         ---------------------

  83.    The point size can be defined by you. Look in the file
  84.    fonttst2.tex for its usage. Fonttst2.dvi shows the size. You
  85.    can use the following point size exactly (5,6,7,8,9,10,11,14,
  86.    17,20,25). The previewer will however work with any point size 
  87.    from 5 to 25, but will display only the above font sizes exactly 
  88.    ( since the .pk files have been available only in the above sizes). 
  89.    This has been done by using font substitution in the file newfonts.sub. 
  90.    See section (10) below for the modifications in newfonts.sub
  91.    These point sizes are exact for 300DPI resolution. For resolutions
  92.    180x180 DPI and 360x360 DPI appropriate substitutions have been made.

  94.    c) Driver prompts for unavailable resolution ?

  97.    In this event the only choice is to specify a resolution closest
  98.    to the ones available ( 150,180,210,240,270,300,329,360,432,518,
  99.    622,746).

  101. 8) Modifications in the .cnf ( Example here uses lj.cnf). These 
  102.    templates are for dvidrv 1.4s. The template for dvidrv 1.4d 
  103.    or other versions is slightly different. ( You can rename it
  104.    as ps.cnf and change the batch files suitably ).

  118. 9) Printing exact fontsizes that are not defined above:

  121.    However you can print the exact point sizes (other than the ones
  122.    shown above) as you have defined using the utility : DVIPS (to 
  123.    create a .ps file from the .dvi file). Use GHOSTSCRIPT to print 
  124.    your postscript file.

  127. 10) Modifications in NEWFONTS.SUB.

  130.     The font substitutions are currently working for 300X300 DPI
  131.     printer ( HP laserjet printer ), 360 x 360 DPI printer driver
  132.     and 180 x 180 DPI printer driver. These substitutions have 
  133.     been done to work with the following .cnf files ( p6l.cnf ,
  134.     p6m.cnf & p6h.cnf and lj.cnf).
